These two metal buildings are right next to the crew team boathouses in Bandemer park. I’ve always had a fondness for Quonset huts and other metal buildings, so I was a little worried to hear that the city had ordered that everything had to be emptied out of these two and that they might be torn down.
I went down with my camera to get a few pictures, and ended up bumping into the old-timer who has had his business here for 18 years. It’s some kind of high-temperature testing lab for industry. He said that the city had bought the land for Bandemer park; but he’d been leasing it back until this year, when they wouldn’t renew the lease. Apparently some of the park money came from the state and they wouldn’t allow any commercial uses of the land.
These sheds are at least 50 years old–I have an aerial photo my father took in 1957 where you can see them–and the guy said the far building was originally used for storing ice cut out of the river.

Question by breathe: What would you do with a big backyard?
We are fortunate to have a large backyard, which already includes a nice-sized covered patio (We live in TX, so the shade from the cover is much appreciated!). With the exception of a pool or a trampoline, what would you do with a large backyard for either adults or children (we have 2 girls- ages 1 and 4). Thanks in advance for any ideas!
