replace storage building?

Question by tnpat: replace storage building?
I need to get some ideas on how much a professionally built storage building would cost in the Clarksville TN. area. (37040) Floods did mine in and need a priceline to go by. It was all wooden with electric and heavy duty floor. It was professional built 3 years ago and I have searched with no luck for the reciept. It was 10 X 16 Thanks for any thoughts. Patricia
Correction, the shed is 12 X 16

Lowes and Home Depot carry sheds like that for around $ 2500, depending on the model. You should be able to ask the manufacturer how long assembly time is for the unit you select (if you choose to) and then you could hire a laborer/contractor/handy man at an hourly wage or a bid price.

$ 2500 + tax + (hours x $ rate) = cost of shed. Add wiring and you are done.

Building a 12×20 shed

Planning and Building a Storage Shed

In my conversations with investors I have found that most people who are interested in real estate or rental property investing are also interested in storage units. They have a great return on investment and generate a lot of cash flow. Why do they do so well you might ask?

Our society loves stuff. We all accumulate it, some of us never let go. Most people have so much stuff that they end up storing it sometimes for years. This can cost hundreds of dollars a month depending on you location the amount of space you need.

Save your money and build a storage shed of your own. Depending on the building you may even be able to complete the project in a weekend. Usually building a storage shed will pay for itself in a year or less. There are many advantages to building your own storage shed. For starters you get to make all the choices, how it looks, how big it is, where it goes, how well built will it be.

These are all things that get a little more difficult when purchasing a kit or a pre-fab building.

If you want your project to go smoothly the first step is planning. Find a good set of storage building plans. Buy plans with a materials list included. This will help you determine what to get before you start building. Take your materials list to different suppliers, not just the big box stores. Often an independent supplier will match a box stores price, deliver for free, and answer building questions. If you build a relationship with your sales rep you will be shocked at what a great resource they will become.

Pick your location. Depending on what you plan to store you will want the building in a different location. If you are storing frequently used house hold items you will not want to have to carry them far when they are needed.

For outdoor items such as a mower or yard tools you may want it farther from the house. If you work on cars you will want it accessible from the driveway. Once you have picked your location and know your needs decide on a façade.

When designing the exterior of your storage shed there are several things to keep in mind. Most people just buy a pre built shed and plop it down somewhere in the backyard. If you give it a little thought you can make your storage shed look quite nice and really have it fit in with your property. Consider mimicking the design of your house. Pick the same façade or one that complements the main house. Add a few windows to make the storage shed look more like a small house than a utilitarian building.

With a good set of plans to follow and some planning the actual process of building your storage shed should go quite smoothly. You will get an end result that far exceeds that of a pre constructed building. If you have limited or no construction experience I recommend getting a “how to” guide that will walk you through the construction phase step by step. Several online sources for storage building plans include a “how to” section or entire book/e-book dedicated on educating you in the art of building. Choosing a set of plans can be a lot of fun and is a good first step then take it from there. Enjoy.

How Do I convert Cubic Feet to Square Feet?

Question by : How Do I convert Cubic Feet to Square Feet?
This shed has 749 cu. ft., how may square feet is that? 96″L x 180″W x 96″H —— 8′ x 15′

You are comparing a volume measurement to an area measurement. You cannot convert one or the other. The square feet is judged by the length and depth of the shed. Multiply 8×15 and you get 120 sq feet.

Edit: sorry did the math wrong.

How do I construct a slabbed base for a metal shed that includes a damp-proof membrane ?

Question by gavman99: How do I construct a slabbed base for a metal shed that includes a damp-proof membrane ?
Hi,

I was wondering if any one could help me, I’ve recently ordered an 8×6 metal shed. I need to make a base for it that includes a damp-proof membrane to avoid the well known “metal shed condenation issue”. I don’t want a concrete base, so I’m going with a slab base instead.

Now theres plenty of info on the web over how to lay a standard slab base for a wooden shed. And theres plenty of info on how to lay a concrete base which incudes a damp-proof membrane for a metal shed.

But I’m struggling to find info on how to lay a slab base that incorporates a damp-proof membrane so I’m looking for some info on that.

Does the membrane go between the sand/cement dry mix and the slabs ?

Won’t this cause a problem as the top of the dry-mix is normally below the height of the surrounding soil (the slabs are normally slightly inset into the ground aren’t they ???)

Any info or links to sites with this would be a great help.
Thanks in advance.

I’m a bit confused by your terminology. In my frame of reference a slab is poured/ finished concrete. By “Slabs” do you mean “Pavers”??? In either case there is always the probability that absorption will happen, leaching up from ground level. I suppose you could create a vapor barrier on top of the base, no matter that you add one to the point at which any base material also comes in contact with the soil.

For one thing, after grading the soil/sand level you’d frame the area, lay the membrane, lay in mesh or re bar, then pour the substance.

The depth 4 to 6 inches, need not be flush with ground level at all, and you probably should know your soil composition and frost lines. To assume that flush with ground level is “Normal” might be a stretch.

I’ve never installed a shed over “pavers” using dry premix concrete to fill spaces, but I’m sure others do. Part of the issue still remains soil composition and possible settling/shifting of any type of “SLAB PAVER”

Just my two “sense”

Gambrel Shed Plans-Download Your Free Shed Plan

amzn.to xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Not only is a Gambrel Shed a very attractive storage shed, it is also incredibly practical and there are sound reasons for building this type of shed to sort out your storage requirements.. Building a gambrel shed is a smart move, provided you have a good set of gambrels shed plans close to hand. Because the tricky part is the part that makes it one of the most practical sheds you can build is the roof. In this article I look at how the roof is constructed and the very practical benefits of its design. The gambrel shed was introduced to the American colonies by Dutch settlers. Its distinctive feature is its roof design which is symmetrical but each side has 2 slopes. 1. The Gambrel Shed Roof The upper slope is shallow and the lower one is steep and this creates amazing space in the roof space. In fact the semi circular shape of the roof space can be enhanced greatly by the use of sky lights which creates an enormous sense of space and reduces your lighting bill. If you decide to use roof trusses rather than rafters in the roofs construction you can enhance the storage capacity considerably. If you choose to leave the roof space open it would make an ideal artists workshop and if you create an attic you will create extra storage space for yourself. 2. The Large Sliding Doors on Gambrel Shed Because of its design most gambrel sheds are fitted with large sliding doors making access for machinery and large goods very easy. And you can
