Question by Spreading Good News!: Having a pergola built. Is 75 too much?
The pergola is over my patio. It is 12′ x 10′ and is treated wood. There are 2×8 boards that will run along the top with a decorative edge on them. Also some tiny ones to help shade. There is also a grid designed trellis at the 2 front corners. The posts are to be dug into the ground and cemented in. There are 2 licenced guys with ins building. I went to Lowes and I figured the wood to be only like $ 150 or so but not sure I’m correct on what is needed. Think the whole thing should only be like $ 500-$ 600. Is this reasonable thinking?

The lumber will be more than that. More like 3-400 and you haven’t included the decorative frills.
Add the cost of post holes, grading, concrete, time and knoweledge going into the construction.

The sun and heat behind our house becomes unbearable, so we cannot use our outdoors for entertaining as we would like to. We have bought 5 aluminum 10 feet by 12 feet pergolas. Any ideas on what I can place on top of them that will be the most economical since I do need to cover a large space? And still, guard from the brutal sun? and withstand the rain? and easy to install myself? and not too heavy for the aluminum frame? and not have to be replaced sooner than later? and not fly away with the powerful winds?
