Outdoor, Pergola, Shade/Covers?

The sun and heat behind our house becomes unbearable, so we cannot use our outdoors for entertaining as we would like to. We have bought 5 aluminum 10 feet by 12 feet pergolas. Any ideas on what I can place on top of them that will be the most economical since I do need to cover a large space? And still, guard from the brutal sun? and withstand the rain? and easy to install myself? and not too heavy for the aluminum frame? and not have to be replaced sooner than later? and not fly away with the powerful winds?
