I am from canada, so I don’t know the rules there. You might have to check on architectural controls for that area, some places will only let you build certain things in certain areas. My boss wasn’t aloud to build one on his property while he was building his house, the area he lived in wouldn’t let him.

How can I jeri-rig a patio umbrella to mount to the top of a basketball pole?

Question by Pook: How can I jeri-rig a patio umbrella to mount to the top of a basketball pole?
I’m looking to replace my basketball hoop with a patio umbrella. Ideally, I want an offset umbrella that mounts where the face plate of the basketball hoop used to be. I don’t like “Shade to Go” and the types that use a tall umbrella mounted to the middle of the pole. I’d like to spend under $ 200, but I’m having trouble finding umbrellas (that are top mount without a pole) and the hardware to do this.

U need to use a regular patio umbrella and standard BB pole just use a u bolt to attach them together. U bolt is what you use to attach pipes together , it should work well for what you want.Good Luck

How much is this going to cost me (building apartment in pole shed)?

Question by Two Peas: How much is this going to cost me (building apartment in pole shed)?
We want to build a 40×80 ft pole shed, and build half of it as an apartment- just 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and living room. On a slab. Curious as to what this could possibly cost us. In IL.
I highly doubt it will be $ 360k, as it will only be 1600 sq ft or less. I would even think that $ 160k would be too much, we could build an actual house for that!

How to Build a Pole Barn

Farmers have utilized pole barns for hundred of years to keep their grain produce and protect their farm animals. Since it will bear the fury of different environmental changes like bad weather, you have to make sure that it is well constructed. One reason why farmers used it is that it is cost efficient. Aside from barn made out of wood, there is also a pole barn made out of metal.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR BUILDING YOUR BARN

The materials that you needed are lumber and metal sheets.

TOOLS

The tools that you needed are shovel, poles and a sledge hammer.

STEPS IN CONSTRUCTING A POLE BARN

Install the poles two-ten inches from each other. Remember that the type of material that you will utilize will affect the pole barn’s overall length. If you choose poles made out of metal, you need to install them closer for additional stability.

If you choose wooden poles, you do not need to install them closer together.

The recommended space between the poles is ten inches. Use the shovel to make holes in the base of the barn for the poles. Make sure that each hole for the poles is eighteen inches deep.

If the soil contains a lot of moisture, you should dig deeper pole holes. After you have installed each pole into their respective place, pour concrete over it to secure it. Pile up the materials at top of each other and make sure that you secure them per level. This will also ensure the stability of the structure and the whole building will not be affected easily especially during environmental disasters like earthquake.

Do not forget to place the entrance in this set-up as well. If you utilize iron sheets when building the support, do not forget to truss each level to ensure that you will have a compact structure.

You should also make sure that the roof is not place very high since it will wear out very quickly.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

Barns should be built on solid land to ensure overall structure stability. Remember not make a basement when creating this kind of project since there is a big chance that the soil will lose its stability. You can also reuse materials like old iron poles to reduce expenses. To increase protection to the building, you can install an insulator. Remember to handle the tools and lumber with care and use gloves and safety goggles while working for additional protection.
